Dr. Paul Ramos

Wildlife Vet, Storyteller, Founder BarkyBakey

“BarkyBakey came about because I wanted to create something wonderful for a loved one, not just as a special treat but also as a connection, a special bonding moment at home.”

After getting a Zoology degree from Seattle where he is originally from, Paul decided to put on a backpack and travel around the world for a year – over 20 years ago!

Along the way Paul attained a vet & masters vet degree in wildlife and did a residency in zoo/wildlife in Melbourne Australia, undertaking work that has ranged from living amongst seal colonies for research to animal rescue in the Australian bushfires, saving sea turtles in the Maldives and at the Ukrainian border providing care to refugee pets.

As a storyteller, Paul has presented a documentary film in Borneo around orangutans and deforestation, co-presented the National Geographic Wild TV series Jungle Animal Rescue in India and UK wildlife short films for the BBC, accrued over 20 million views on TikTok and most recently sailed the British Isles to reveal that climate change can now be ‘heard’.

Through his work with wildlife, Paul has been able to see first-hand the importance of one overriding thread: we are all profoundly connected - to each other, to Nature, and to those we share our lives with.  In fact, it is in these connections where the good stuff is.

During lockdown Paul wanted to find a way to slow down from the busy-ness of life, if even for a moment, to create something truly wonderful and to strengthen the connection he shares with his sweet Cavashon dog Cookie.

Hence, BarkyBakey was born.

Paul now lives in the Cotswolds of the UK with his wife, two young boys and of course, Cookie.
